An egg-cellent turn out for Love Amelia
22/03/2024
The tombola team was out in force again this Easter to donate eggs to an incredible local charity.
Love, Amelia is a charity set up by the parents of Amelia Capewell following her tragic passing, just twelve minutes after birth. During the next few days Steph (Amelia’s Mam) got talking to a young mother who had given birth, not knowing she was pregnant, and with nothing for a new baby.
Having learned there was very little in the way of support, Steph and Phil (Amelia’s Dad) donated some of Amelia’s items to this young family. What started as sporadic donations and fundraisers soon become the charity it is now.
Offering support to families experiencing poverty and hard-ship across Tyne & Wear and County Durham, they make sure that no family, no children go without, whether this is a Christmas gift, Mothers’ Day gift, bags of pre-loved clothing, home items such as cots/Moses baskets or a visit from the Easter Bunny. No child will ever feel like they’ve been forgotten about.
We've been proud to support Love, Amelia for a number of years, including on their Easter egg appeal - supporting with over 100 items, including easter eggs, chocolate bars, jelly sweets, Pez, stuffed toys, crafts and more, being sure to include treats that covered all dietary requirements.
We first heard about Love, Amelia on Facebook when they put out an appeal for essential items such as clothing for families who have had to flee their home with nothing but the clothes they are wearing.
Since then, as well as Easter, we’ve helped them at Christmas with gifts for children, collections for Mother’s and Father’s Day and clothing collections for all ages.
tombola Receptionist, Nic Robinson, who co-ordinated this year's appeal alongside Lead Housekeeper, Tracey Cooper, said: "I love the Easter appeal. You can buy a bag of jellies, bar of chocolate or a small egg from just £1 so anyone can join in, no need to spend a fortune to help.
"The thought of a child thinking the Easter bunny didn’t visit them breaks my heart. Seeing the pile of donations grow each day makes me so happy and I always love how enthusiastic the staff at Love, Amelia is when you drop off the items. They are always so grateful for even the smallest of donations."
